Hiking
Our hostel is situated just a hop from the powerful Maligne Canyon where you can take the Maligne Canyon Trail through some of the deepest parts of the Canyon.

Signal Mountain Trail (8.5km or 5 hrs) is a good day hike into the high alpine country. Beautiful views from the Signal lookout over the Rockies. This trail is also the beginning of one of the best-known hikes in Jasper, the Skyline Trail taking you on a 2-3 day hike among breathtaking scenery.

Opal Hills Loop (8km or 4 hours) is a STEEP trail into an open valley of lush alpine meadows, bright flowers and deep gullies high above Maligne Lake.

Canoeing
Travel to Maligne Lake (38km from the hostel) and take a boat tour to Spirit Island. Or rent a canoe and explore the lake on your own for the day. (Maligne Tours runs a shuttle to the hostel and the lake.)

Winter Activities
Tour the Canyon in the winter via a guided canyon crawl.

Columbia Icefield Centre 
View the Athabasca Glacier, a huge tongue of snow and ice 6km long by 1km wide. Take the Brewsters' Ice Age Adventure and ride up and onto the glacier via a specially designed Ice Explorer. Open April 15 to October 15.
