Discover HERE 5 potential museum routes or read the HI-Montreal staff's recommended 3-DAY ROUTE :

  • Day 1 : Have a croissant at the hostel and walk to the Museum of Fine Arts and the McCord Musem.

    Having filled up on arts and history, head to Atwater Market to get some fruits, vegetables and wonderful local delicacies for a picnic by the Lachine Canal. Use your museum pass to go on a patrimonial cruise on the Lachine Canal (20$ value). If you want to keep on floating, H20 Adventures offers 20% off to HI members on their kayak, canoe and pedal boat rentals.

  • Day 2 : After a greasy American breakfast at the hostel, take the subway to Darling Foundry, a contemporay art centre famous for its industrial look and impressive installations. Have lunch at Cluny ArtBar, one of the most praised cafe in town!

    Walk through the up-and-coming Griffintown neighborhood to get to Old Montreal where you can stop at one of the following places : Pointe-à-Callière Archeology and History Musem, Centre d'histoire de Montréal or Spa Scandinave (20% off with HI members). If it's not too late, you can also rent a bicycle at Ça Roule (discounts with museum pass and HI card) and head towards Ste-Hélène Island, where you can visit the imposing Biosphère.

  • Day 3 : Have one of the hostel's humongous muffins and head towards the Latin Quartier. On the way, you can stop at the Contemporary Art Museum or the Belgo, the headquarter of contemporary art in Montreal. Once in the Latin Quarter, stop for a free screening at Cinémathèque Québécoise and take a look at the current exhbition of the National Library. Then, take the direction of the Gay village and stop at the Écomusée du Fier Monde to know more about Montreal's industrial and working-class past. Finally, finish your day at the Olympic Park where you can go up the Observatory ($) and visit the Botanical Garden and the penguins of the Biodome.
