Nordegg, one of Alberta's best kept secrets.
HI-Nordegg, Shunda Creek Hostel is a favourite for hikers, climbers and mountain bikers. Located in the heart of the David Thompson Corridor, this four-season destination provides the perfect setting for individuals, families, groups and outdoor enthusiasts seeking exceptional recreational opportunities.
The area offers some of the most diverse scenery, flora, fauna and history in the Alberta Rocky Mountains. You can visit the Siffleur wilderness area, Abraham Lake, North Saskatchewan river, Kootenays Ecological reserve and so much more. Take a short drive on the Forestry Trunk road and you're in a whole other area. You can take the Forestry Trunk Road north to Edson Hwy 16 or south to just west of Cochrane Hwy 1A. But be aware this is a graveled highway and can be rough at times.
HI-Nordegg is located just out of the Banff National Park, so you don't have to pay park fees. There is a whole lot of FREEdom out here.
So where is HI-Nordegg located exactly?
HI-Nordegg is centrally located in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies, halfway between Banff and Jasper and halfway between Edmonton and Calgary (approximately 3 hours to each). We're in the perfect location. HI-Nordegg is only an hour (83km) outside of Banff National Park, so if you want to hop across and into the Parks, we're not too far from it.
Inexpensive and highly accessible activities and adventure can be enjoyed here in Nordegg for individuals and families alike.
So pack your bottle of water, some energy bars and an extra pair of socks, because every day here is an adventure and an adventure you won't wanna miss!
