There are three hostels to choose from in Vancouver in the summer months, and two to choose from during the winter. All three hostels offer HI's standard of clean, comfortable and secure accommodation in some of the city's prime locations. The difference is in the details and figuring out which hostel is best for you depends on what you're looking for and how you want to spend your time in the city.

...a party?
You'll have no shortage of nightlife or people to enjoy it with at HI-Vancouver Central. Right next door you'll find Johnnie Fox's pub with standard Irish food, beers and good times. The rest of Granville Street comes alive at night, with bars, pubs and clubs lining both sides of the street. Hit up the hostel's pub crawl for a sampler of the local wares.

...a beach?
If you're after a nice stretch of sand, the ocean lapping at your feet and summertime relaxation, head to HI-Vancouver Jericho Beach. This summer-only hostel is a quiet beachside getaway with easy access to the rest of the city. Enjoy great walking and biking trails, a stunning view of mountains, Stanley Park and downtown Vancouver and kayaking, sailing, swimming and other beach sports at your doorstep.

...a neighbourhood feel?
Vancouver's West End gives you a neighborhood feel among tree-lined residential streets and independent shops and restaurants. HI-Vancouver Downtown is on a residential street, just off colourful Davie Street. You're close to all of downtown's attractions but the quiet location offers a break from the hustle and bustle.

...a self-cooked meal?
If you're planning to put your culinary skills on display while in Vancouver, your best bet is a visit to the kitchens of HI-Vancouver Downtown and HI-Vancouver Jericho Beach (summer only). These fully-equipped kitchens have everything you need (except an oven) to prepare something delicious. HI-Vancouver Central has an express kitchen for lighter fare (with microwaves, toasters and kettles) but those looking for more will be happiest at either of the other two hostels.

...free breakfast?
Do you find it too hard to think about meal planning before lunch time? You're not alone. HI-Vancouver Downtown, HI-Vancouver Central and Vancouver Jericho Beach feel your pain and offer fantastic continental breakfast buffets included in the cost of your bed (but no, they won't serve it to you in your bed). Fruit, pastries, bagels, cereal and a slew of jams n' butters are yours for the taking every morning of your stay.

...a place for groups?
In the summer, HI-Vancouver Jericho Beach's large dorms, ample common areas, and parkland location are perfect for your group visit.  Jerry's Cove Cafe provides meals for any sized group and free bus parking is right onsite.  The rest of the year, HI-Vancouver Downtown is your best bet for groups.  You'll find a large kitchen, dining areas, games room, and meeting room providing plenty of space for group meals or get-togethers.
