Hiking
Most of the trails surrounding the hostels are good for long trips and are excellent for large groups. Athabasca Falls is a short 5 minute walk from the hostel. You can stroll down an old abandoned canyon where in the past, water would rush wild with fury against the rock. Take the trails that are past the falls along the river edge you can easily picnic on the shore, and feel embraced by the impressive views.
Further along the old HWY 93A you can hike to Leach Lake, the emerald of this part of the valley. Horseshoe Lake is only 4.5km away but you can spend the whole day there exploring the rocky beach or even cliff jumping for the most adventurous. For a longer trek, the Fryatt Valley is a popular 2-3 day hike of magnificent scenery.
Mountain Biking
Some trails in Jasper National park are restricted to pedestrians only, but much of the network is shared with all users. The biking season typically runs May to October. See Parks Canada for more information or stop in at Freewheel Cycle for some local trail recommendations.
