Granville Street Pub Crawl
A short wander around the entertainment district of Vancouver will bring you to a trio of pubs, all within easy stumbling distance. Nothing but good times. The night culminates at the infamous Roxy Night Club where Joe's Garage will be kicking the 1980s rock jams. No cover charges, the rest is up to you.
Tuesdays
Erik's Tour - Lynn Canyon
Started in 1995, Erik's Tour is described in the Lonely Planet as 'legendary'. Become one of the more than 13,000 guests who have toured the city with Erik, enjoying the metropolitan sites and the local wilderness. It's a full-day walking tour to places you just won't see on your own. Join the delightful and enthusiastic Erik for the tour that is unquestionably the best bargain around.
The tour lasts about nine hours and costs $12.50 which covers all your transportation.
Yuk Yuk's Comedy Night
If you like to laugh, this night is for you. Join the group for free entry to Yuk Yuk's Crash and Burn Night, showing off either new and untested comedians, or funny people with new material seeking both your laughter and pity. There is a professional host and a headliner, so you will always leave happy. And hey, it's free.
Wednesdays
Grouse Grind Tour
The Grouse Grind is nature's stair-master. Hike 2.9 kilometres while gaining 842 metres in altitude. It is a demanding and challenging hike which is best left for the fit of body and hardy of spirit. If that's you, you'll be able to brag that you did the Grind. The reward is that you can enjoy the wildlife refuge on the top of the mountain with two resident grizzlies, Coola and Grinder, as well as take in a lumberjack show.
The tour lasts about six hours. The tour is free, but you will need bus fare ($3.75 each way) and money for the Skyride gondola back down the mountain ($10).
This tour only runs every second week, so check the activities board at your hostel to see when it is running.
Granville Island Market and Brewery Tour
Experience the culture, food and history of Granville Island. An eclectic array of artists, buskers, green grocers, casual eateries, craft vendors, ethnic food sellers, importers, sweet stands, florists, fishmongers, butchers, bakers & candlestick makers. Then take a tour of the Granville Island Brewery and sample some of B.C.'s best beer.
The tour lasts about one and a half hours. The cost of the tour is $3.50 for the ferry ride ($1.75 each way). The brewery tour is an additional 45 minutes, is completely optional, and is $9.75 (student discounts available).
Pub Night
Our friends at Doolin's, Johnnie Fox's, The Two Parrots and The Forum will host an evening of drinking. You can't lose. No cover, but you buy your own drinks.
Thursdays
Stanley Park Aquarium Tour
Check out the crown jewel of Vancouver on this short walking tour. You'll head out from HI-Vancouver Downtown and check out the West End beaches before heading into the park to the famous Vancouver Aquarium. Along the way, you can see some of the local wildlife: herons, squirrels, raccoons and an occasional skunk or bald eagle. IInside the aquarium, it gets even wilder with belugas, dolphins, otters and sea lions!
The tour lasts about two hours. The cost of the tour is: $20 for adults, $15 for youth (13-18)/seniors(65+), $12 for children (4-12), free for children 3 and under. The tour saves you $2 on regular admission to the aquarium.
5-Pin Bowling & Pool Night
Join your fellow bowling enthusiasts for a night of 5-pin bowling and pool. The Commodore Lanes & Billiards will provide a deal of $8 for two hours of bowling and/or pool. You'll be able to enjoy the old school 1920s art deco interior of the joint while enjoying the fully licensed snack bar. After the games are finished, the group heads to Ceili's to discuss their triumphs and tragedies. I think we both know it's been too long since you last got your bowl on!

Erik's Tour - Capilano Canyon
Erik's second tour has no overlap to his first. Taking a different route, you'll be guided up the the Cleveland Dam and down through Capilano Canyon to the Capilano Suspension Bridge. You'll see tall, old Douglas fir trees, a salmon spawning ladder and get a view over the gorge from the canopy walks. It's a full day of exploration that will not only thrill you, but will save you money on admission to the Suspension Bridge.
The tour lasts about nine hours and costs $31 which covers admission to the Suspension Bridge and all transportation.
Club Night
What if we could get you free cover to The Bourbon and the Lotus Sound Lounge? And what if I told you it was on a Friday night? And all you would have to do is sign up and then meet in the lobby of HI-Vancouver Central and then walk down to the spots with our volunteer? Well, that's what we're telling you. It's a really good deal!
Saturdays
Lighthouse Park Tour
Take a trip to West Vancouver and discover the quaint community of Horseshoe Bay. The tour is guided by our veteran volunteer, David, who has 15 years of experience bringing guest out to see some of the last remaining old growth trees in the lower mainland.
The tour lasts about 5-6 hours. It is free except for the bus ($2.50 each way). You'll need lunch which can be bought during the tour or packed and brought along.
Moose Travel Network Rooftop BBQ
If you like free food and sunny weather, you'll probably like this. Our friends at Moose will be minding the grill on the top of HI-Downtown from 3:30pm until 5pm on Saturday afternoons for the rest of the summer. Just show up and they will give you a free burger, dog and pop. They have vegetarian options, too. Sounds pretty easy right? Just show up and you'll get free food!
Sundays
Bowen Island Tour
Come and enjoy the small island community of Bowen. This tour takes you on a ferry to Snug Cove and then on a gentle hike around Kilarney Lake. See some beautiful forest wildlife and experience a slower pace of life in B.C.
The tour lasts about nine hours and is free but you will need to bring money for the bus ($2.50 each way) and the ferry ($9.75 round trip).
