The HI-Dawson City River Hostel is a rustic place beautifully located along the banks of the Yukon River and right across from Dawson City. Enjoy the sweeping views from the hostel`s observation deck to Dawson City and the hills behind and watch the river traffic as it unfolds below.
The hostel is not connected to the power grid in Dawson City but electricity is hardly needed in the Yukon`s North - the sun provides day light 24 hours long. From mid. August a flash light might be needed and guests are provided candles for the rooms but no glaring electric lights also provide a perfect viewing experience for the night sky and the Northern Lights.
Free fire wood (as well as axes and wood saws) is provided for the fire pit, the out door cooking shelter, the wood stove in the common cabin, the sauna and the unique bath house. There is no heat in the rooms themselves and providing your own warm bedding is recommended - blankets are provided and linen as well if needed.
Wilderness abounds just steps away from the hostel with visits by Foxes, Moose, Black Bears, Porcupines etc quite a possibility. Eagles might soar above while squirrels might carry off your peanut butter sandwich - so be prepared for a true wilderness experience in one of the very few hostels world-wide still offering to be touched by true nature.
The hostel rents bike to explore Dawson City and the gold fields nearby and canoe trips can be arranged either for short day trips or all the way to Eagle or Circle, Alaska. Also check our low rates for canoes from Whitehorse to Dawson City.
Van Tours for at least 6 passengers can be arranged to just about anywhere in the Yukon.
