June 4: VINTAGE CAR SHOW: Chase, Art Holding Arena

June 1: TENTH ANNUAL PEONY TEA PARTY  : Too soon the lilacs will be gone. Then the lush and luscious peony with its fine whites, pinks, and deep reds will take its place. Each of the past 10 years, just as they reach their peak, Runaway Moon Theatre has celebrated this herald of summer with a Peony Tea Party at Curly Willow Farm. Join us on Sunday June 12th from 1-4 pm to walk knee deep in a field of peonies (and take some home!) Visit the onsite puppet museum and live entertainment from choir, gypsy swing to belly dancing.

June 17 : Working Together Traditional POW WOW: Native drumming, dancing and games (lahal)    Neskonlith Pow Wow Arbor (about 12km from hostel)

June 18 : DONKEY DAY FUNDRAISER CELEBRATION: Meet and greet donkeys at the Refuge.  Donkey walks, food vendors, kid's crafts and live music.  Admission by donation , Turtle Valley, about 8km from hostel.  www.turtlevalleydonkeyrefuge.com

A native drumming and dance competition. Traditional Food, arts and craft's and Stick Games (a gambling game with singing - very cool).  (Located about 4kms from HI-Shuswap)

June 19: SALMON ARM KID'S FISHING DERBY:  A FREE  event open to all children under 12. No boat necessary as you can fish off the community wharf. 7am to 11, Salmon Arm Wharf

June 21: ABORGINAL DAY CELEBRATIONS: Squilax Pow Wow Grounds 3km from hostel.  First Nations Pow Wow dancers, BBQ and Baseball game

June 25:   DRAGON BOAT RACES : Held at the Salmon Arm Wharf and waterfront

July 1:  CANADA DAY CELEBRATIONS: Parades, pancakes breakfasts, children's activities, beer gardens, dances, fireworks.  Celebrations will take place in various communities: North Shuswap, Chase ,Sorrento, Blind Bay, Salmon Arm.

July 3 to August 26  R.J. Haney Heritage Village presents ?The Mystery of Dutch Charlie? as the annual Villains and Vittles dinner theatre on Wednesday/Friday/Sunday evenings.  Written by Peter Blacklock, this Salmon Arm story is set in 1885.  Dinner provided in Marjorie's Tea Room.  Tickets are $24 for adults, $14 for children.  Reservations are a must, call 250-832-5243.  www.salmonarmmuseum.org

July 10:   PIONEER DAY: Join us in celebrating our pioneer heritage! Experience an old time 1910 Country Fair. Begin the day with our pancake breakfast, explore the historic displays and demonstrations, old fashioned games, music and then a BBQ lunch or a super sized ice cream cone. July  23 at 8pm and July 24 2pm, 24 at the SAGA Public Art Gallery, Runaway Moon presents ?Dream,? a Mexican folk tale set in a miniature world. Drawing on traditions and folklore from the Central American celebration of the ?Day of the Dead', Runaway Moon Theatre animates the story with live music, singing, puppets and actors. July 19 to Aug 21: CARAVAN FARM THEATRE presents "A Midsummer Night's Dream" by William Shakespeare: A unique outdoor theatre company telling a classic story with music, horses, fairies and a foolish donkey.  A must see if you are a theatre fan.  www.caravanfarmtheatre.com

August 6  SAGA Public Art Gallery presents ?Paint the Town: Parisian Style? with 25 local artists painting en plein aire throughout the downtown, 9am to noon.  Reception at 7pm at SAGA to see the works.

August 6 - 7:  BCPRA RODEO, PRITCHARD: Local Rodeo events from calf-roping, steer wrestling, barrel racing and bull riding.  Evening dance at local hall.  (About 20kms from HI-Shuswap)

August TBA:  NESKONLITH  POW WOW:  A native celebration including dance, singing and crafts, and concessions with traditional food such as bannock.

October : "SALUTE TO THE SOCKEYE": Adam's River Salmon Run, Roderick Haig Brown Provincial Park.  Spectacular return  sockeye salmon to the Adam's River spawning beds during the first 3 weeks of October.  River trails and a viewing platform. The Salmon Run occurs annually with viewing opportuntiies along the river trails in the park.  The sockeye are the salmon that change to a red body and green head during spawning.  The hostel is only 4km from the river. http://www.salmonsociety.com/
